NEPA Rules Streamlined for USDA Funding

USDA adopted final rules for implementing NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) for USDA-funded projects. The revisions are intended to streamline USDA’s NEPA regulations, even removing some previous USDA regulations. The new rules do not necessarily affect regulations imposed by other applicable agencies.

The stated purpose of the revisions are as follows:

These regulations, therefore, are intended to align NEPA with its Congressionally mandated dimensions, reflecting the guidance given also by the President and the Supreme Court, and making review under it faster, more flexible, and more efficient and effective.
